How to cook basic Quinoa

From salads , soups to stir-frys, quinoa is so versatile and one of my favorite little grains great gluten-free grain to throw into recipes. It’s full of protein and fiber,  it absorbs all the liquid  you cook it in. Meaning that you can add Veggie stock and/or herbs to add extra flavor .

Another thing that’s wonderful too is that Quinoa cooks in only 15 minutes, and keeps in the fridge up to a week, makes it perfect to add to your weeknight dinners or toss it in your lunch at anytime of the week .

So, how to cook quinoa?

1: Rinse well your Quinoa: Quinoa can be bitter if you do not rinse properly before you cook it. Use a fine mesh strainer and rinse it a few times under cool water.

2:  You can  Use different liquids to cook your quinoa, but water works great too.

For a savory dish, I’ll cook my quinoa in vegetable stock  for a bit of flavor from the salt or just the Basic with salt and water ,

Start with one part quinoa, two parts water or other cooking liquid (veggies stock , milk, etc).

1 cup quinoa and 2 cups of liquid,  will make about 3 cups of cooked quinoa.

You can always double that to make a larger batch .

3:  Bring the cooking liquid to a boil then stir in the rinsed quinoa.

Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for exactly 15 minutes. Remove the saucepan from heat and let stand covered for another 5-10 minutes.

4: Use a Fork to To help separate the grains .

Use this cooked quinoa as a base in different recipes savory recipes , or just as a great side for saucy dishes or topped with nuts ,fruits , milk/yogurt for breakfast .
